Savannah, Georgia

A spontaneous Valentine's Day getaway I'll always remember (for the most part.)

Authentic, Beautiful and with an Open Container Law

Savannah is basically one huge outdoor museum, located in the heart of the historic district, at some points it even feels like you've gone back in time. It's filled with historic plaques marking moments in time where people that have long been forgotten created a dynamic culture and plenty of beautiful architecture.
During your visit you're bound to catch a bit of Savannah in your own way either by taking advantage of their various tours or by winging it every time you turn a corner (like me!)
The best part is that every single aspect of Savannah can be enjoyed with a nice cold beer while strolling down the street. Yep! The entire town has a widely embraced open container law and there are plenty of local bars that are more than happy to fulfill the gesture.
So if you're looking for a nice little getaway with good food, street music and an awesome scenery - closely resembling the likes of NoLa - don't forget about this pretty little ghost town located near the coast of Georgia.
Oh, did I forget to mention it's amongst one of the most haunted cities in the U.S.? Cheers!

Check These Out:

River Street.

It's filled with cobblestones, street music and local vendors spread out along Georgia's first importing dock.
It's said that some of the first slaves to arrive to the 13 colonies arrived here then walked along these streets and its underground tunnels, it's pretty mind-blowing.

Bay St.

Just before River St. is Bay St. here you'll find local breweries, original monuments and lovely parks to enjoy a little something different every time you pass by.

Moon River Brewing Company.

Tasty local brews ranging from chocolaty 9% to hoppy light beers, plus their guac is bomb.

Broughton St.

Shopping, shopping, shopping. If this wasn't a trip with my boyfriend, I could've easily lost a day or two in gorgeous boutiques like Fabrik and go-to's such as Urban Outfitters and JCrew. Sigh.

The Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist.

I'm not usually one to stop in random churches but I'm not kidding when I say I almost ran over a pedestrian once I caught eye of this beauty. The detail is simply stunning considering half of it was once burn down in the 1700's.

Colonial Park Cemetery.

Famous for being one of the most haunted cemeteries in Savannah you'll always find brave tourists and designated ghost tours roaming around its ruins hoping to catch a glimpse of something interesting.
Which in't hard since most, if not all, of the graves are from victims that fell ill to the Yellow Fever epidemic of 1793 and plenty headstones honor soldiers lost in combat during the American Revolution.

One Word: Brunch

J. Christophers

Just take a look at their menu:
WARNING: drooling ahead.
Downside? They don't serve their own alcohol but no worries! There's a charming gas station nearby that sells conveniently priced champagne and they allow you to bring in your own bottle. Basically, you get mimosas on deck.

Arizona Skillet, Pecan Banana French Toast, and Crab Cake Benedict

Collins Quarter.

Although they're highly popular in the area don't be discouraged by an hour long wait, their outside and indoor bars are both fully stocked with local beers and fancy roasts to ease the wait (it's totally worth it since it's pretty much a guarantee you'll get tipsy before noon.)

                                                                                                                Drunken Berry Mimosa
These were both absolutely INSANE, I'm a sucker for a good Benedict.

Brisket Burger and Specialty Eggs Benedict

Dinner.

Alligator Soul.

This wearhouse turned underground restaurant is designed with an old New Orleans vibe, complete with dim lighting and modern takes on delicious drinks and classics. Easily put, if your wallet can handle it you don't want to miss out on this gem. Also, don't forget to try the Banana Beignet. You're Welcome.
Tip: make a reservation or be at the door by 5:30 and dine and drink by the bar.

Fried Green Tomatoes and Oysters

Coffee & Sweets.

The Coffee Fox.

Roasted coffee never tasted so good. Their unique coffee blends mixed with an authentic Mexican flair just makes me wish this foxy shop would pop up in every street corner.
But then it'd be Starbucks..

Leopolds.

Named the #5 best ice cream in the world, I couldn't leave without waiting 30 minutes for a double scoop of Banana, Cherry Chocolate, Pistachio and Cookies and Cream made from their circa 1935 recipes.
I just couldn't.

I can honestly say that my first trip to Savannah was unexpectedly delightful and it's safe to say I'll be back soon. Dangerously enough for me, it's sparked a little fever for exploring new historic gems all over the country but for now it'll stay as one of my favorite memories taking on new adventures with my valentine.

And if anyone's up for a trip let me know of anything I missed!
I'd be more than happy to check out any new awesome spots during my next visit.
